This regatta in memory of Rainha Dona Amélia (aka Amélie d’Orleans) commemorates the last queen of Portugal and more specifically, her infamous Mediterranean cruise on board of the royal yacht Amélia IV. While the queen’s intentions were to make her kids acquainted with ancient civilizations and other cultures, the poor working class of Portugal was not amused about this illustration of wealth. Some versions of history let one believe that this cruise was the tipping point for republicans to start the uproar and eventually, declare the end of Portugal as a kingdom.
For this regatta, a helms-woman is mandatory, the skipper and crew can be of the male species. Ladies, girls.. please step forward and guide our yacht and its crew to victory … or at least, to the finish line 🙂
The AdR and IdR are here. The regatta takes place in the Tejo river. Start at 11h, it has to be sailed within a 5h time-span. This regatta has a participation fee of 5€ per crewmember.
This event is fully booked.
